I surrender:

i surrender to the words,
bitter and stale,
the taste left in our mouths
by colloquial speech.
i surrender to the dresses,
worn over and over,
the same on each body,
none of them fancy.
i surrender to the shoes,
already walked in,
and follow the path previously taken.
i surrender to the society,
that tells me i can't be,
two things at once,
a leader and a woman.
i surrender to the girl,
already broken and crying,
of old news and old mistakes.
i surrender to the boy,
again, the highest bidder.
but i surrender:

and repeat.
